Chandigarh, the city beautiful is most modern architectural, green and clean situated at the foots of shivalik hills. It was named after local presiding deity 'Chandi' the goddess of power and 'garh'a fort beyond the temple called Chandigarh. Chandigarh was built as capital of Punjab. But on the division of state in November 1966 into Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh is Union Territory as well as capital of Punjab and Haryana. Many Govt. offices of both states are operating from Chandigarh. It is administrated by Union Govt. through Administrator assisted by Advisor and five Administrative Secretaries and team of officers. Municipal Corporation was also formed in year 1996 with 20 elected and 9 nominated councilors. Chandigarh is linked to all major cities in the region by road, train and air.
